Biannual concert established, to promote gospel music

A biannual gospel music concert dubbed Revive and Worship has been established and  is set to debut on April 19 at Mount Soche in Blantyre.

The concert will promote gospel music while providing a platform for gospel artists and fans to connect.

Classics Events Management founder and organiser Edson Kawalala said gospel music lovers are being left out.

“We have many talented gospel artists who don’t get enough exposure in terms of big events. At the same time, gospel fans lack a consistent platform for entertainment,” he said.

The concert is planned to coincide with major Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas to give fans something to look forward to during the time.

Kawalala also pointed out that limited investment has been a challenge in pushing gospel music forward and they are banking on the new platform to contribute to the industry’s growth.

“With proper planning, we believe we can establish a strong foundation to support and promote gospel artists and create international collaborations,” he said.

Kawalala said the ultimate goal is to elevate gospel music industry to international level. He said some local artists are already making an impact globally through collaborations.

Contemporary gospel musician Praise Umali commended Classics Events Management for the concert, describing it as a much needed event.

“Growing up, we used to hear about gospel shows, but now they seem to have phased out. It would be good to have something that fans and artists can look forward to,” he said.

The Nthawi hit maker also said the concert will provide artists a platform to engage with fans.

Artists Paul Kachala, Praise Umali, Theresa Phondo, Kelvin Sings and Beracah are set to perform at the concert.
